For those new to martial arts, or for those with little experience in falling and rolling, we suggest that you begin your Aikido training with our “Beginner’s Introduction to Aikido” program. This is a four (4) week program which currently meets each Tuesday evening from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. Ideally, a beginning student would start this program on the first Tuesday of the month, but you may join the class at any time with the permission of the Instructor.
This is a slow paced introduction to Aikido concepts and techniques. You will learn about and practice proper dojo etiquette, basic Japanese terminology, footwork and stances, attacks (grabbing and striking), defensive techniques, and ukemi (falling and rolling). This class requires your active participation, working with both an instructor and other students. Upon completion of this course, you should feel comfortable joining a regular aikido class. Please wear loose clothing, including athletic or sweat pants that cover your knees. Shoes are never worn on the tatami training mats; you will be training in your bare feet.
The cost of the Beginner’s Introduction to Aikido program is $40.00. In the event the instructor feels you are able to join the regular aikido class without finishing the full four week course, we will be happy to apply your course fee to the dues for the regular aikido program.
